Untitled
Silver black and white prints, each 150×80 cm
March 2007
The three pairs of lips depicted in these black and white prints are ‘sealed’ with the phrase ‘I am a split total’, stamped in black drawing ink directly onto the models lips and written in three languages; English, German and Greek. The original Greek text loses much of its emotional value once translated into the other languages, a central concept to the work. My starting point for this piece was a question; ‘How does the translation of an emotion function when the emotion itself is difficult to define?’
